ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an international non-government organization, specializing in standardization and related questions. Its members are the national standardization institutes of 160 countries, based on the principle of one member per country, and its Central Secretariat, located in Geneva, Switzerland, ensures the coordination of the whole.
ISO is not part of the United Nations system, but it fosters many technical and political relations with the specialized institutions within the United Nations. As an institutional member of the World Economic Forum, ISO has increased its collaboration with the NGOs representing company or professional interests.
With a staff of around 154 people representing 24 nationalities, the Central Secretariat is responsible for the overall coordination and support for the generation and promotion of ISO standards and other ISO system products. It’s working languages are French and English.
